Job search service providers for teachers in northern New Jersey Best answer on the web
service for teachers in the state of New Jersey. Specifically, I am
looking for the following services: Resume / Curriculum Vitae / cover
letter advice, Distributing Resume / Curriculum Vitae to schools /
public school districts in areas of interest, Information about which
schools / districts are likely to be hiring, providing networking
contacts to get on the inside track, etc.
Service provider must provide services in Bergen and surrounding
counties. My certification is in grades K-8, so the provider must
work with that specialty.
Question will be considered sufficiently answered if one or more
services providers are located that meet acceptable criteria (several
to choose from would be preferable). Extra tip will be provided if a
service provider is contacted and a satisfactory working relationship
is established.
I?ve done some preliminary research on your question and I?m not finding any recruiters that specialize in recruiting teachers for public schools. Instead, I?ve found several organizations that support the hiring of teachers as well as job boards that specialize in academic positions. I?ve also found some government sponsored resources to help facilitate the hiring of teachers in New Jersey.
It looks like doing your own research will be your best bet for identifying schools and districts that are hiring. You will then have to follow the particular procedures for the specific school district and/or school. Most seem to require submission of a letter of interest, resume and proof of certification.
I can provide you with resources for conducting a proactive job search on your own and locating current open positions in your target area. Will this meet your needs?
I look forward to your clarification.

The answer will be acceptable if a service provider is found who does these things in Bergen County, New Jersey for K-8 teaching positions.
Thanks for your comments and wishes. We'll continue our search.
It seems to me that the type of recruiter/consultant you're looking for finds all their clients through word-of-mouth and because of the valuable service they provide they probably have a full client load. Going through the hoops of public school hiring procedures is tough. Keep asking among your academic collegeaus for a suitable consultant to help. They're no likely to need to advertise or look for clients.
Best wishes to you and your wife.

So we are already in the process of doing all that research and paperwork ourselves. Recently my wife heard from a colleague (who works at our children's school) that she used a service similar to the one I described in the original question the last time she was looking for a job, with great success and satisfaction. However, that person who provided that service is no longer in business. Therefore, we are looking for someone else who provides that service.
Timing is also critical when making these applications, and someone who knows the ropes and has the resources to get your applications out quickly on your behalf and at the right time is an enormous help. This person also knew people personally in many of the schools / districts, and knew their hiring practices, so that she could, for example, anticipate when they would be seeking candidates before they posted the jobs to the general public, etc.
The idea is to provide your credentials ONCE to someone who knows his or her stuff, and have that person put the appropriate paperwork together and stop by your house every so often so that you can sign a few things and your done.
So once again, thanks very much for the offer, but no thank you kindly. If we start exhausting our resources, or need some other specific information that we're having difficulty with, I may post another question at an appropriate list price.
Thanks once more. - u_s
